QUESTIONS THE JEHOVAH’S WITNESSES CANNOT ANSWER!
By Homer Duncan
- In what sense was John the Baptist the forerunner of Jehovah? Why did Jehovah need a forerunner? Good exegesis, common sense and even “Aid to Bible Understanding” make John the Baptist to be the forerunner of the Lord Jesus Christ. On page 945 of the Aid book we read, “John the Baptist, son of Zechariah and Elizabeth; the forerunner of Jesus.” Matthew 3:3; Mark 1:3; Luke 3:4 and John 1:23 are a quotation of Isaiah 40:3. LORD in Isaiah 40:3 is properly translated Jehovah, and the NWT is correct in translating kurios as Jehovah in these four references in the New Testament. Why then do you not recognize that Jesus is called Jehovah?
- If Jesus Christ was an angelic creature, who became a man to die and to become a glorified spirit creature, how can He be “the same yesterday, today and forever” (Heb.13:8)? “For God never said to any angel, “Thou art my Son” (Heb. 1:5 – New English Bible).
- How can Jesus Christ be “a god” when the Bible clearly states, “you are my witnesses, is the utterance of Jehovah, even my servant whom I have chosen, in order that you may know and have faith in me, and that you may understand that I am the same One. Before me there was no God formed, and after me there continued to be none. I – I am Jehovah and besides me there is no savior” (Isaiah 43:10-11 – NWT)?
- Since Jehovah will not share His glory with any created being (Isaiah 42:8; 48:11), how could the Lord Jesus ask the Father to “glorify me alongside yourself with the glory that I had alongside you before the world was” (John 17:5 – NWT), and how could Peter ascribe glory to Christ (2 Peter 3:18), and how could the angels, the elders and the living creatures ascribe glory to the Lord Jesus (Rev. 5:12), and how can Jesus return in the glory of His Father (Matt. 16:27)?
- How can Jehovah refer to himself as being pierced? Zechariah 12:1 makes it plain that Jehovah is the speaker in all of the 12th chapter of Zechariah. In verse 10 He says, “they shall look upon me whom they have pierced.” We all know that the Lord Jesus was the One who was pierced on the cross (or torture stake, if you prefer), and Revelation 1:7 states that every eye shall see Christ as the one who was pierced.
- How can both Jehovah and Jesus reveal themselves by the same name “I am” (Exodus 3:14; John 8:58; 18:5,6,8)?
- How can both Jehovah and Jesus be called the “first and the last”. (Isaiah 41:4; 44:6; 48:12; Revelation 1:11-17; 2:8; 22:13)?
- Isaiah 6:1-10 speaks of Jehovah; John 12:37-41 refers to this passage and applies it to Jesus. Why do you refuse to recognize that Jesus is Jehovah?
- If Jesus was only a man, why did he accept worship from men? (Matt. 2:2,8,11; 14:33; 15:25; 20:20; 28:9,17; Mark 5:6; 15:19; Luke 24:52; John 9:38), and why did God say “Let all the angels of God worship him (Christ)” (Heb. 1:6)?
Article II of the Charter of the Watch Tower Society of Pennsylvania states, “The purposes of this society are: …public Christian worship of Almighty God and Jesus Christ; to arrange for and hold local and world-wide assemblies for such worship.” But now JWs are taught that they are not to worship Jesus. On page 31 of the January 1, 1954 issue of the Watchtower we read, “…No distinct worship is to be rendered to Jesus Christ now glorified in heaven. Our worship is to go to Jehovah God” (The Watchtower, Jan. 1, 1954, p. 31).
The New World Translation of the Holy Scriptures attempts to solve the problem by using the word “obeisance” when referring to Jesus and the word “worship” when referring to Jehovah or God, and they have convinced their followers that this is correct. I have in my files many letters from JWs stating that this is the correct translation. However, any witness can take his Kingdom Interlinear Translation and see that the same Greek word is used when referring to worship of Christ and of God. The translators of the NWT have arbitrarily used the word obeisance to promote their false, unscriptural position.
If Jesus Christ is not God, and does not deserve to be worshipped as God, He is not as good a man as Peter, Paul or John who refused to be worshipped (Acts 10:25,26; 14:11-18; Revelation 19:10).
- In the light of Acts 4:12, are we saved by the name of Jesus or the name of Jehovah?
- If Jesus Christ is not God, why did he not correct Thomas when Thomas addressed him as “My Lord and my God (John 20:28 – NWT)?
- What happened to the body of Christ? There is not one single Jehovah’s Witness on the face of the earth that can answer this question. The WTS teaches that Christ was raised as a spirit person. Their doctrine concerning the resurrection of Christ is based primarily on 1 Corinthians 15:44, 45. “It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit.” What folly to take this scripture and to teach that Christ was raised a “spirit person.” The Bible plainly says there is a natural body and a spiritual body. The natural body is the body that we have now; the spiritual body is like the body that Christ has when He was raised from the dead. Christ was raised with a spiritual body, and not as a spirit person. The Lord Jesus is a life-giving spirit, but this does not mean that He is a “spirit person.”
First Peter 3:18 is another verse the JW’s use to substantiate their position. This verse states that Christ was quickened by the Spirit. The Bible teaches that each person of the Trinity had a part in the resurrection of Christ. He was raised by the Father (Acts 10:40; 13:30). Christ was raised by His own power (John 10:17,18). 1 Peter 3:18 and Romans 8:11 teach that Christ was raised by the Holy Spirit. But with all of their twisting of the Scriptures, they still cannot answer the question what happened to the body of Christ? In years gone by they claimed that His body was dissolved into gasses or that it was preserved as a grand memorial, but since both of these theories are too ridiculous even for Jehovah’s Witnesses they now say that it is irrelevant as to what happened to His body.
Accompanied by a Christian brother, on March 30, 1976, I visited the headquarters of the Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society in Brooklyn, N.Y. While going through their mammoth printing plant I asked a number of the young men workers, “What happened to the body of Christ?” All of them admitted that they did not know, and considered the question to be irrelevant. I sought an interview with one of the WT officials, and before this gentleman learned my identity, I asked him the same question. He replied, “What difference does it make?” When he learned my identity, he refused further discussion with me.
The Bible teaches that the atoning death of Christ and the bodily resurrection of Christ are the two main pillars on which the Christian faith rests (Romans 4:25; 1 Cor. 15:1-4). In the name of Jehovah, I plead with you to prayerfully study the twenty-fourth chapter of Luke and see if it does not clearly teach the bodily resurrection of Christ.
All of us like to “save face.” We are ashamed to admit that we do not know all of the answers. We have a strong tendency to defend our position whether it is right or wrong, but we are fools when we do this. What folly to pretend to give the correct answer, when we know in our heart that we are being deceptive. In the Name of Jehovah God, I remind you that one day you will stand in His presence and account to him for the answers that you have given to these questions.
Jehovah’s Witnesses cannot answer these questions. One hundred and ten thousand copies of this tract have been sent to Jehovah’s Witnesses all over the world. Only three JW’s have even attempted to answer these questions.
I challenge the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society to publish answers to these questions.
I ask you to write the WTS and ask them to publish answers to these questions. They cannot do it. Of course, if you did write and ask them to answer these questions, you would be afraid of being disfellowshipped. However. God has not given us the spirit of fear, but of love and of a sound mind (2 Tim. 1:7).
Write for a list of other books and booklets exposing the false teachings of the Watchtower Society.
